Template
The Pan Flute is a soft kite (no sticks) made of 7 connected windsock like tubes or cells. It has a good wind range and flies at an angle of 50-60 degrees.

Start by making the two templates from stiff cardboard. Don’t forget that a 0.5cm seam allowance is included on the sides. Use the templates to cut out seven (7) ‘B’ panels and seven (7) ‘T’ panels. The ‘B’ panels make up the bottom deck and the ‘T’ panels make up the top deck. For aesthetics try alternating contrasting colors for each cell or create a rainbow pattern.


When sewing together work from the middle to the outside. For each seam (except the two outside) you will be sewing 4 pieces together -- 2 ‘T’ panels on top of 2 ‘B’ panels. Be careful that they are properly oriented before sewing. On the end cells you will need to roll up the body of the kite into the inside-out cell to sew the seam. Turn the cell outside-out to get the seam inside.

Attach ribbon or loop ties at each corner of the completed kite. The front ties are used to attach the bridle (~2 x 1m) and the back ties are used to attach lines for a drogue or tail. The kite is now ready to fly.
